From February 28, MVMNT holds TOKYO [UN]REAL ESTATE, an exhibition marking the culmination of the titular project it has created as a 2024 CCBT artist fellow. Welcome to the grand opening of an imaginary real estate agent that introduces lifestyles in Tokyo!
CCBT artist fellow MVMNT (“movement”) is developing a project called TOKYO [UN]REAL ESTATE in which it collects data on living spaces in Tokyo, creates a digital archive of the diverse lifestyles in the city, and explores contemporary society from the perspective of modernology, a form of urban sociology that emerged in prewar Japan. The project records the manifold ways in which Tokyoites live as a 3D scan, and then documents and examines that life-sized version of humanity. It forms a new iteration of modernology that decodes the shifts and characteristics of contemporary society. The collected 3D data is turned into an open-source creative asset for games, manga, animation, and more, exploring approaches to digital archiving and new possibilities for collaboration.
The project’s self-titled exhibition presents the results of these efforts, showcasing the data it has compiled of real Tokyoite lives as well as the various lifestyles evident from that data. It also features displays of manga, games, extended reality, moving image, and other examples of works that utilize the 3D data of actual homes, and searches for new potential for living spaces in the digital age. The 3D data collected over the course of the project is also available on a website in late February.

CCBT Art Incubation Program
One of CCBT’s core programs, the Art Incubation Program provides opportunities for creative talent to undertake new projects and makes those processes accessible to the public, facilitating forms of artistic expression, exploration, and action that change our city for the better. Selected through an open call, five artist fellows will act as CCBT partners, developing their projects, making the creative process public, exhibiting the results, and holding workshops and talks.
