Kuraya Mika

Born in Chiba Prefecture, Kuraya Mika graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Design and completed graduate studies at Chiba University. After working at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, she became director of the Yokohama Museum of Art in 2020. Her major curatorial credits include Undressing Paintings: Japanese Nudes 1880–1945 (2011–12, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; winner of the 24th Ringa Art Encouragement Prize), the Japan Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013, recipient of Special Mention for Tanaka Koki’s abstract speaking – sharing uncertainty and collective acts), and Welcome Back, Yokohama (2025, Yokohama Museum of Art). Kuraya also works as a manga artist under the name Kurayami-ka.Last Updated: 2026.09
