Kyoko (electronics art designer / Gyaru-den)
Kyoko is part of the electronics art group Gyaru-den, which formed in September 2016. Her practice fuses electronics art and crafts with the gyaru youth subculture that was one of Japan’s signature female street fashion trends of the 1990s and 2000s. Inspired by the idea that today’s gyaru can create things with electronics, she advocates a unique concept of technology for gyaru, by gyaru. Her output includes such original items as the dekotora-cap (hats decorated with electronic components) and “devices that you want to encounter so much it makes you shake.” She continues to explore a creative combination of gyaru fashion and technology that can attract guys at nightclubs and parties. Her dream is that Arduino kits will one day be available to buy at discount stores.
