This exhibition is a collaboration between CCBT and the Montreal-based art and design studio Daily tous les jours, held at two locations in Harajuku: CCBT and a small plaza along Cat Street (Old Shibuya River Promenade). Unfolding across these two nearby sites, the event engages visitors and passersby alike. Won’t you come along and dance with us?
Voices transform into lights, and footsteps become dance. Before you know it, find yourself singing and dancing alongside total strangers!
Founded in 2010, the Montreal-based art and design studio Daily tous les jours creates chance encounters within public space. In such environments defined by the presence of strangers, the studio fosters fleeting moments that spark new connections with others. While featuring both aesthetic beauty and appeal as well as an inclusive character open to all, at the core of the studio’s practice is a keen, critical engagement with contemporary society, where human relationships are increasingly tenuous.
This exhibition unfolds across the Harajuku area at CCBT and a small plaza located along Cat Street (Old Shibuya River Promenade). Following its relocation there in December 2025, CCBT has come to know Harajuku better, in particular its unique topography, the local community that has emerged alongside it, and the special waterway that lies at its core. Culverted in the lead-up to the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the waterway facilitated serendipitous encounters and discoveries in a city once famed for its canals and rivers.
Inspired by the human relationship with topography, the exhibition temporarily installs infrastructure at these two sites linked by a waterway running under the ground. Such soft infrastructure is an example of what Daily tous les jours calls the “infrastructure for the human spirit,” encouraging us to pause, engage, and interact. By installing two artworks in Harajuku, the exhibition spurs chance encounters and contact between strangers, and explores the potential for new connections in public space.
