Under the theme “Making New Rules with Blockchains,” the second iteration of the Future Ideations Camp will reconceptualize money, NFTs, and DAOs through practical applications of blockchain technologies. The Taiwan-based Volume DAO delivers the third keynote lecture, which is open to the general public and streamed live on YouTube.

Exploring ways to make rules with blockchain technologies, Future Ideations Camp Vol. 2 brings together around twenty participants as well as Japanese and international instructors and facilitators to conceive new visions of currencies, non-fungible tokens, and decentralized autonomous organizations through blockchains. The third keynote lecture is open to the general public and features the Taiwan-based Volume DAO.

Decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO) are structures that make centralized control redundant and are now attracting attention as a new concept representative of the shift to Web3. All of the decision-making and financial transactions that take place within a DAO are visible and accessible to everyone and handled through blockchain technology, which maintains the transparency.

The Taiwan-based Volume DAO comprises several artists and collectors who create and collect art, and engage in educational activities. Significant examples of its output include curating two recent exhibitions: “Do Machines Dream of NFT?” (2022) and “Generative Taipei On-Site” (2023). Web3 enables multiple identities and forms a platform for practices that transcend previous conventions of roles, turning artists into collectors, and collectors into curators. Formed by people like this, Volume DAO is helping to support the art scene that they propose. In the coming Web3 world, what will DAO be able to achieve? This lecture explores those possibilities through examples of Volume DAO’s practices. What impact will DAOs active in arts and culture have on how art is valued and appraised? The lecture also homes in on the potential for renewing the relationship between art and people.
