Project

KINEOTYPE

Summary

Observatory of Plurality collects perspectives on the urban from people with different kinds of bodies, perceptions, and experiences, and implements a temporary observation deck in the city allowing visitors to experience these multifaceted viewpoints. It comprises three phases: “Discovery,” featuring public participatory fieldwork; “Conversion,” in which the collected perspectives are changed into experiences; and “Implementation,” where these are installed in urban space. The project aims to unlock the richness of the city that emerges from different physicalities, and to update the rigid ways we look at the city.

Profile

05 (Makihara Eri + Wada Natsumi)

05 is a collaboration between deaf filmmaker and theater director Makihara Eri and researcher and creative Wada Natsumi, who is the child of deaf parents. The name comes from 5005, a visual language and culture hub that the pair jointly run. They explore the possibilities of visual body language, Makihara through moving image and bodily expression, and Wada through research and translation. They co-founded 5005, a working space in the Nishi-Nippori area of Tokyo for people who perceive the world through their eyes, and explore the potential of language and communication across both art and research.

Art Incubation Program

One of CCBT’s core programs, the Art Incubation Program provides opportunities for creative talent to undertake new projects and makes those processes accessible to the public, facilitating forms of artistic expression, exploration, and action that change our city for the better. Selected through an open call, five artist fellows will act as CCBT partners, developing their projects, making the creative process public, exhibiting the results, and holding workshops and talks.
