Based in the Tango region of Kyoto, Yamazoe runs tané textile, a practice that combines handweaving and programming. She joined NHK in 2003 and spent 19 years producing documentaries on culture, art, and history. In 2018, she began studying under master artisan Moro Ryuichiro, a designated Master Craftsman of Kyoto, to learn and carry forward traditional handweaving techniques. Yamazoe left NHK in 2022 to establish an independent career path. She has developed original methods, including Genius Loci, which generates weave structures from geographic coordinates, and Forming Weave, which weaves the form of a garment itself without cutting the fabric. Bringing together natural dyes, hand-operated Jacquard looms, and digital technologies, Yamazoe explores the relationships between place, body, and memory through clothing.Last Updated: 2026.08
