Exploring Recording Practices / Research StudentCity

Born in Yamanashi Prefecture in 2003, sen | Furuya Chihiro explores individual and embodied sensations, the contours of the self, and the practices of recording. She uses the word matou (“to wear” or “to be enveloped in”) to describe the sensation that spreads throughout the entire body, through which the self takes shape. Drawing on records of these experiences—including creative works and practices—she investigates movement within the self and the body.sen | Furuya Chihiro graduated from the College of Knowledge and Library Sciences, School of Informatics, University of Tsukuba, and is currently a research student at the university’s Laboratory for Embodied Knowledge and Artistic Expression, led by Matsubara Masaki. Drawing on qualitative research practices such as first-person study and arts-based research, she presents her work at academic conferences, and also develops exhibitions and workshops based on practices and records that emerge through her exploratory process.Last Updated: 2026.08
