Sawaragi Noi is an art critic. His writings include Japan, Modernity, and Art (1998, Shinchosha), Simulationism (2001, Chikuma Shobo), World Wars and World Fairs (2005, Bijutsu Shuppansha), Post-Art Theory (2015, Bijutsu Shuppansha, Yoshida Hidekazu Prize), and Seismic Art Theory (2017, Bijutsu Shuppansha, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Art Award). As a curator, his exhibitions include “Anomaly” (1992, Röntgen Kunstinstitut), Ground Zero Japan (1999–2000, Art Tower Mito Contemporary Art Gallery), and Bubbles / Debris: Art of the Heisei Period 1989–2019 (2021, Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art). His recent publications include Art in the Pandemic Age (2024, Sayusha) and, as editor, The Best Essays of Sunouhi Toru (2024, Chikuma Shobo).
