Born in Takayama, Nagano Prefecture, in 2000, Okamura is a doctoral student at the University of Tsukuba. Inspired by the way Japanese onomatopoeic words such as fuwa-fuwa and chori-chori can evoke texture and form through sound alone, her research explores the sensations and perceptions that emerge at the intersection of language and imagery. She approaches making as an open-ended, exploratory process, much like doodling. Alongside investigating clothing through the sound symbolism of onomatopoeia, and studying cross-modal correspondences between taste impressions and form, Okamura’s current work involves research and artistic practice focused on developing interactions that allow users to touch, manipulate, and create with a virtual “second hand” on digital interfaces.Last Updated: 2026.08
