Yamauchi Tomoki

Born in Hyogo in 1978, Yamauchi Tomoki began working as a part-time gardener while a student, before eventually establishing his own practice alongside his research pursuits. His practice explores the logic behind the form of creations through analyzing the placement of objects and the process of doing the work. In addition to garden design for private residences and commercial spaces, Yamauchi exhibits garden-themed work. His publications include When the Form of a Garden Emerges (Film Art, 2023), and the co-authored The Philosophy of Lighting (Seikaisha, 2021). His translations include Derek Jarman’s Garden (Sogensha, 2024) and Gilles Clément’s The Garden in Movement (Misuzu Shobo, 2015).Last Updated: 2026.09
