Hiraoka Mao’s practice converts societal structures and rules that impact daily life into analogous incidents drawn from personal experience and memory, presenting the resulting misalignments in perspective and sense of dissonance in the form of artworks. The aim of this process is to focus on the changing and fluctuating intimacy that arises through interactions with others, and to capture the invisible emotional shifts within an individual’s inner self. Her major exhibitions and projects include the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival Asian Docs Co-production Network Project, CAF Award 2025 Selected Works Exhibition (2025, Hillside Forum, Daikanyama Hillside Terrace Building F, Tokyo), Okazaki Park Stage 2025 (ROHM Theatre Kyoto), Ibaraki Film Arts Festival 2024–2025 (2025, Ibaraki City Welfare Cultural Center), and the Kyoto Seika University and the University of Seoul exhibition 828.45K: Come & Go (2024, Kyoto Seika University Gallery Terra-S).Last Updated: 2026.09
