Born in 1974 in Germany, Markus Selg’s scenographic installations condense film, sculpture, performance, and music into immersive spaces of experience that create new dynamics between archaic myths and digital technologies. In 2009, he staged the exhibition Spuren der Sonne (Traces of the Sun) with Werner Herzog and Jannis Kounellis. His feature film Das Ewige Antlitz (The Eternal Face) premiered in 2012. In 2015, the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, the Netherlands, held a retrospective of work, Primitive Data. Since 2015, Selg has worked closely with director Susanne Kennedy to create theater installations, opera happenings, and exhibitions, including Coming Society (2019) and Ultraworld (2020) at the Volksbühne in Berlin. In 2020, their virtual reality experience I AM (VR) premiered at Theater Commons Tokyo. In 2022, they staged the Philip Glass opera Einstein on the Beach at Theater Basel, with guest performances at the Wiener Festwochen and Berliner Festspiele. Last Updated: 2024.08
