Born in Shiga in 1947, Nagata Kazuhiro graduated from Kyoto University with a degree in physics in 1971. He then served as a lecturer at Kyoto University’s Chest Disease Research Institute and Institute for Frontier Life and Medical Sciences, followed by stints as dean of and lecturer at the Kyoto Sangyo University Faculty of Life Sciences, and head of its Institute for Protein Dynamics. In 2020, he became director general of the JT Biohistory Research Hall. Nagata’s other past positions include president of the Japan Society for Cell Biology, vice president of the Asian Pacific Organization for Cell Biology, and president of Cell Stress Society International. Since 2020, he been the program supervisor for the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development. As a poet, he served as head of Tou-Tanka-Kai from 1992 to 2014. His other posts include a member of the selection committee for the Asahi Shimbun newspaper and poetry journal Tou, and for the Imperial Palace’s poetry reading events from 2005. Since 2022, he has also been an official of the Imperial Household Agency.Last Updated: 2024.01
