Kuwakubo Ryota


Born in 1971 in Tochigi Prefecture, Kuwakubo Ryota earned a master’s degree in design from the University of Tsukuba and then graduated from the International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences. In 1998, he presented his collaboration with Maywa Denki, Bitman, and began creating work using electronics. His accolades include the Excellence Award in the Japan Media Arts Festival’s Art Division in 2010 for The Tenth Sentiment and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists in 2011. Kuwakubo was also involved in curating the exhibition Design Ah! (Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design, etc., 2018) as part of the art group perfektron with Yamaguchi Reico. He is currently a lecturer at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences. Last Updated: 2023.08
