Aokid’s first encounter with breakdancing came at the age of fourteen. Interested in cinema, he studied at Tokyo Zokei University, during which time he started to create works of visual and performing arts. Inspired by moments of connection and encounter between people or people and the city when walking on the street, his practice responds cyclically between the individual and the public, through direct action and works of art. Presenting work both in and outdoors, Aokid’s output includes Dobutsuen (2016–), a promenade performance series held in Yoyogi Park. He also runs Street River & Beer, an ongoing project in which participants dance for an hour and then drink beer and talk for an hour on the streets of Shibuya.Last Updated: 2024.08
