CCBT COMPASS 2024

ABOUT

15 days of collaborations
with artists through art,
design, and technology.

Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT) opened in Shibuya in October 2022 as a place for developing creativity in ways that meaningfully engage with society. CCBT has so far hosted ten artist fellows, collaborating on a wide range of art, technology, and design projects.

CCBT Compass 2024 sees those ten artist fellows and others lead a series of events across fifteen days and four programs where members of the public make, experience, and think about creativity and technology. The CCBT artist fellows’ projects explore creativity through technologies like AI and extended reality, and new trends in creative expressive against a backdrop of such developments as digital fashion and generative design. Their various experiments with the city, festivals, and inclusive environments offer new proposals for our lives and culture. These forms of expression and mindsets guided by the intersection of creativity and technology can become our compass for future cities, social systems, and communities created by the public, as well as forward-looking models of sustainability.

At CCBT Compass 2024, the Shibuya-based CCBT is the engine driving an endeavor to connect creativity and technology with SusHi Tech Square (STS) in Yurakucho and the rest of the city. Via a comprehensive showcase of CCBT’s activities, the events will develop a compass for devising and thinking about future creativity.

What Is CCBT?

CCBT opened in October 2022 as a place for developing creativity in ways that meaningfully engage with society through art and digital technology. Equipped with creative spaces and studios, CCBT organizes a range of programs with the goal of functioning as a driving force for making Tokyo better through creativity and technology. In order to serve as a hub for utilizing the know-how and skills that accumulate in a city, CCBT undertakes civically and creatively minded R&D and exhibitions related to art, design, and technology, in collaboration with artists, specialists, the private sector, and more. With the co-creative transformation of Tokyo as its mission, CCBT conceives of new cityscapes in partnership with the public, creatives from around the world, corporations, and more.
